My pillow is the best in the world and I can't be swayed from this opinion. I have taken it when staying away, although I've never tried to pack it in a suitcase.

At some point it will need to be replaced, but I can't bear to think about that day.

I read today that you are supposed to replace them every 3 years. NO WAY!

Have you had any negative reactions when taking your pillow away with you?

The French « sausage pillow » is not a pillow. It is a nice solution to the gap between the top of the mattress and the headboard. Thought you’d like to know. I think they are disappearing though…

Maybe I should get one to stop the tissues I keep under my pillow from migrating down the back and under the bed. I have definitely stayed in one place in France, many years ago, where the sausage was the only pillow option, but maybe they'd forgotten the actual pillows!

I’ve just remembered - it’s called un traversin (a bolster in English)

As a horse eating, French woman we do have bolster pillows (those sausage shaped thingies) I have them as the second pillow saves having to try and keep the two pillows on top of one another and stops the kindle falling between the mattress and headboard

I think our guest pillows are better than the main bed pillows, we bought new pillows when we moved in and so the guest pillows have only been used for less than a month compared to our 5 years of use in the main bed

Must go, that horse won't cook itself 😉

Haha! I'm thrilled you have a sausage pillow. And extremely impressed by the quality of your guest ones.

My husband takes his pillow everywhere with him. It's a buckwheat pillow so it's very heavy and typically takes up about half his suitcase, but it gets priority!

I love him for this and am now looking up buckwheat pillows.

Three years?!??!!???! I can wash mine, so I sort of understand it for ones you can't wash, but even so!

No-one has minded, or if they have, they haven't said. Equally I wouldn't be offended if anyone brought their own pillow when they came to stay with me. Not waking up with a bad neck or back, just because the pillow hasn't been the correct height for you, is very important.

Yes, three years sounds very wasteful to me. I'd be very happy for someone to bring own pillow. I might even start mentioning it beforehand!

Great article. We have eight pillows on our bed. Four each. Mostly got sitting up to read. At sleep time it gets reduced to one pillow. I then put one between my legs, and if I need extra coziness, one under my arm and one over my face. Egads I’m weird.

EIGHT?! OVER YOUR FACE?! This is kind of impressive. I like how cushioned (or rather, pillowed) you are in bed. It sounds very cosy. (Apart from the face one.)
