I will be very clear from the off - nobody is asking me to get married. I’ve had a partner for the last decade, Tom. We share a child. And maybe there have been times when he’s faintly considered it but the Australian Open/Ashes/World Cup/ Masters/Tour de France/Grand Prix/PDC World Darts Championships/FA Community Shield/World Indoor Bowls and Sky Sports in general have got in the way. But it’s unlikely.
Out of courtesy, I asked Tom if writing this was okay. He said, “No that’s fine, I know you don’t want to get married again.” “And you don’t either, do you?” I said with just the lightest questioning tone. He said no so quickly that the speed and intensity gave me slight whiplash.
I can’t blame him. I’ve only been proposed to once before and it didn’t go well. I’m not great at relationships.
I blame two people in my formative years for my failings.
